Page 0: Page 1: first quarter 2010 | South American successes for IPMA Reported by Jouko Vaskimo in Helsinki The International Project Management Association (IPMA) Latin America and Caribbean Countries (LACC) Project is achieving excellent results. The Mexican and Peruvian subprojects have been completed, and the main project continues with other Latin American countries such as Chile under the management of Dr Jesús Martínez-Almela. The basic conceptual and strategic targets of the IPMA LACC Project are: • To identify the interested parties in each country • To help establish an IPMA Member Association (MA) and Certification Body (CB) in each country • To help establish the strategic operations in each country • To help establish the collaboration between established and future Member Associations and Certification Bodies • To help take advantage, and to become more competitive in promoting the new IPMA products and services • To help increase IPMA presence and influence in the LACC area The Mexican and Peruvian subprojects achieved completion when the two prospective member associations presented their membership applications to IPMA Council of Delegates at the council meeting at The Hague, Netherlands, on 27th March 2010. It is expected that the Chilean application will be presented to IPMA Council of Delegates at their next meeting in September 2010. Dr MartínezAlmela, Project Manager of IPMA LACC Project, is very happy with the success of the LACC Project: “The LACC Project has been an authentic challenge and a constant source of inspiration and of overcoming for all the interested parties. The geographical area of Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, over 20 in total, with more than 350 million inhabitants, ranges from the Mexican border with the USA in the north to the Patagonia and the Antarctic in the South in the limits of Argentina and Chile. The six largest countries of Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Chile have more than 60 % of the Spanishspeaking population.” Mrs Brigitte Schaden, IPMA President, comments “IPMA becomes stronger and stronger. But we know your salary! “We do not know what you earn. But we know your salary” was the title of the first pma quarterly of 2010 in Vienna. Nino Grau, member of the board of GPM and Vice President of IPMA and Ulrich Vossebein, managing partner of IMU (Institut für Marktanalysen und Umfrageforschung TransMIT GmbH), presented their career and salary survey of project managers of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH-region). In Austria the survey was supported by Projekt Management Austria. The main results of the survey: The gross salary of project managers on average is 67.664 Euro. For this income they have to work 47,21 hours per week. Besides the working hours the salary is influenced by age, experience in project management, education in project management and the hierarchical level on which the project manager is situated. In Austria the gross salary of project managers averages 55.967 Euro. Brigitte Schaden, chairman of pma and president of IPMA: “I presume the lower average gross salary in Austria has two reasons. First: Austrian project managers who participated in the survey are younger than their colleagues in Germany and Switzerland - the age of Austrian project managers is on average only 36,5 years, the age of project managers in the D-A-CH-region in total 38,3. And second: there are rarely project managers in Austria on the higher income-levels of chairmen or divisional directors.” Altogether 680 project manager participated in the online survey. 73,5 % of the interviewees have a university degree and 46,1 % have a certification of IPMA - 19,7 % Level D, 12,8 % Level C, 10,8 % Level B und 2,8 % Level A. On 10th March 2010 new Board came together for its first meeting to elect Chairman of the Board and agree on next steps. Arnis Leikarts was elected Chairman of the Board of Latvian National project management association unanimously. Mr.Leikarts took the position, valid until 2012, immediately. The former Chairwomen Mrs. Prof. Dr.oec. Z.Ilmete will continue her contribution in the further development of Certification System in Latvia. Mr.Leikarts has more than 15 years experience in banking and last 10 in business and IT development on international level leading projects and programms. Since 2001 he is member of LNPMA and last six also member of the board. He is founder and director of the Latvian National Project Excellence Award and Project Excellence Ambassador of IPMA PE Award in Latvia. His vision for the association is to become a opinion leader in the Project Management field in Latvia. The papers as well as a summary of the interactive work will be published in the traditional proceedings as a book. The IPMA Expert Seminar 2010 on 18th19th February 2010 once again was an unique opportunity to communicate about survival and sustainability, the reasons for the respective successes and failures and the project management actions for contributing to the project goals as expected by the stakeholders. Situation The investors, customers and organizations who survived well during the last couple of years were not limited to the traditional topics, processes and methods of project management. They cared for the results of their projects. They become fit for the future, again and again, by exchanging their 3 Page 4: experience in international groups of project, program and portfolio professionals. During the year 2009 • many project managers went through a the financial crisis context • or had customers who are on their way out of a economically hard time • or never experienced a real financial crisis situation but were fully occupied Tom Taylor, speaker, founder of Buro Four and Vice President of APM (Association for Project Management UK), served as the chairman of the seminar. In his opening speech he pointed out the character of the seminar as a workshop and motivated the participants to take part. in projects relates to the time horizon. Not only for the project life time, but also for the product life time. But sustainability beyond the useful life is not wanted. Hans started the discussion about, what are the most important survival issues addressed in the IPMA ICB? He asked the participants for helping in the question, how the IPMA ICB Version 3.0 could be optimized in terms of sustainability. Questions discussed • Who cares for the sustainability in projects? • How is the optimum of the sustainability in projects defined? • What does the project manager contribute to sustainability? • How much do investors pay for sustainability? • Is the survival a condition or a consequence of sustainability? • What are the lessons learned from the external crisis to the projects? • What are the characteristics of the survivors? He emphasized that the perception of Boom and “Gloom” are not the same for organizations, services, Sectors or Nations at the same time, because their affection is different and deferred. Organizations and their personnel therefore react different. Some are producing new ideas, others try to stabilize, and others restart, all the same time. Of course this is influencing the Stakeholder’s perceptions and attitudes. Crisis has always been happening! But is there anything different this time? Customer confidence, business confidence and official indicators do not point in the same direction. Crisis also means change, opportunities. So what kind of recovery is taking place? Of course economic recovery. But also cultural, environmental, moral, employment and business recovery are going forward. Sustainability is part of social responsibility. It should not be reduced to environmental topics, even though projects are dealing with attaching the issues (e.g. wind farms) and dealing with the consequences (e.g. flooding). And of course we can do a lot as individuals in projects together with our organizations to do more about sustainability. The former spm president and coauthor of the IPMA Competence Baseline Hans Knöpfel held a speech about the competence element sustainability. From his view sustainability is “survival long term”, therefore sustainability Actions Sustainability and survival are hot issues now and for the next future. Contributions were submitted and selected mainly from the following countries: United Kingdom, Netherlands, Iran, Greece, Switzerland, India, Norway, Brazil and Austria. After the inputs from the contributors and moderators, participants got together in moderated discussions, generation of ideas, evaluation and conclusions, based on the knowledge and experience of the whole group of participants of the IPMA Expert Seminar 2010. The last speech was from DR. Daniel Scheifele, who was talking about Zurich as a “GreenCity, which was developed by one of the leading construction companies worldwide (BOUYGUES CONSTRUCTION). Based on this concept several parts of the city, former industrial deserts, were rebuilt. Nowadays the energy consumption in Switzerland is about 8,700 Watt per person. The plan is to reach 2000 Watt per person in Zurich in the future. End 2013 some areas will already be built on that level. The reduction will be reached by reducing traffic tremendously and by using much more renewable energy. After a short lunch, the introduction of the three streams started. Stream No. 1, “The role of the owner/investor in projects”, presented by Mehran Sepehri, Ph.D., Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. This group discussed the role of project owners in terms of sustainability in terms of project excellence, organizational maturity and success. What means “success” in the eye of those persons? Participants Brigitte Schaden (IPMA President) and Markus Stäuble (spm President, the Swiss IPMA branch) opened the seminar with warm welcomes to all the participants. 4 Page 5: Stream No. 2, “The concept of sustainability and its application to project management”, presented by Gilbert Silvius, Professor at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, Research Center for Business and Innovation. Sustainability is only possible through innovation, and innovation is driven through projects. And sustainability is also seen as very important by project managers (based on research). Although some standards indirectly refers to sustainability (e.g. PMBOK), still there is room for improvement. The purpose of stream No. 2 is to find ways to strengthen sustainability in standards. Stream No. 3, “Responsibility for sustainability on projects, programs and portfolios”, presented by Rodney Turner, SKEMA Business School, Lille, focused on the benefit of project outputs. But what about the sustainability in terms of use of resources (and here especially persons)? What role does sustainable work processes play here? These are the questions stream 3 discussed. The first day ended with a typical Swiss Cheese Fondue at the top of Zurich, the Uetliberg. The second day started with a presentation from Akeel Akbar (Harpum Consulting), London about sustainability and knowledge management. Akeel stated that missing knowledge management in projects is one of the most important reasons for failing projects. He suggested to improved effectiveness by identification and dissemination of best practices. Knowledge is spreaded over 4 areas, which are process knowledge, domain knowledge, institutional knowledge and cultural knowledge. Akeel presented a case study from a mid size pharmaceutical company, where they improved KM. The biggest challenge there was the change in thinking which is necessary for successful Knowledge Management. The second presentation was held by John-Paris Pantouvaki from Greece on the topic of sustainable project management. Health & safety is an integral part of sustainability. Successful health & safety strategies need frameworks and an implementation process for the framework. After an implementation, three different rating models can be used to check the maturity of the frameworks. But not all models do reflect the 7 categories of the health & safety concept. Only the German model (GSBC) does reflect all. All are addressing environmental factors, but have no linkage to operational or working practices, which are key determinants of health & safety standards. And last but not least, the systems do not quantify health & safety standards in economic terms. John-Paris then was suggesting using productivity as the underlying concept. Work methods, resource management and operational efficiency are the measured areas. By matching the conventional concepts he introduced a new framework, which is combining health & safety, sustainability and productivity. In the afternoon the groups came together for further discussion and a final presentation of their outcomes. The results will be published in a small book, as every year. The whole conference was closed by a wrap up of Daniel Scheifele as the program manager of the conference. A very positive feedback of participants to the seminar and a farewell from Tom Taylor as the Chairman concluded the event. 5 Page 6: Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management - launched The new Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management (APFPM) was successfully launched in Hong Kong on Saturday 24th April 2010. The launch was celebrated at the Annual Dinner of the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management. The night included Hong Kong luminaries from industry and senior government postings, Federation meeting delegates from Hong Kong, India, China, Nepal, Japan, United States, Indonesia, and Australia and 120 or so other guests. Presenting to the dinner Dr Bill Young, the APFPMs new Chairman elect, announced the formation of the new Federation. An organisation that he said will link and help develop and strengthen national Project Management institutions across the Asia Pacific region. Dr Young shared the Federation’s vision to drive Project Management to deliver real value in the Asia Pacific. Creating opportunities through the collaboration of Associations across the dynamic and diverse Asia Pacific will enable the improvement of project management practices and professionalism. He explained that with the high rate of business and social change occurring globally there is an increasing imperative to deliver better project outcomes in terms of capital effectiveness and business value. The end beneficiaries of such improvement would be individual career Project Managers, corporations, governments, and society broadly. The forming of the Federation has been an initiative seeded by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). The AIPM, a veteran professional association in its own right, with over 30 years experience and nearly 10,000 members, recognised the huge value in regional Associations working together to build a stronger and more robust profession. The AIPM will act as Secretariat of the new Federation for the next four years to help ensure its foundational development and capacity building. The Federation members will loosely comprise countries that are part of the Asia Pacific region. Although in order to build the organisation at a sustainable rate members will initially come from Australia and Asian countries. The whole catchment of countries within the region though represents around two thirds of the world’s population and well over half of global trade. In spite of its diversity of languages, cultures, and landscapes, the nations in this cluster are inextricably linked by history and geography to working effectively together. According to Dr Young what has made it possible to establish the Federation is the visionary leadership, passion to see professional improvement, and the commitment of individual Associations and their key Representatives, to work together to deliver tangible outcomes. The value proposition for the new organisation is based on: • Power of collaboration: the benefit of working together brings a huge talent pool to influence and drive change improvements in project management practices and Association management. • Ability to identify and encourage the embracing of best practice Project Management across the Asia Pacific region. Only by openly sharing across partnering Associations can understanding and improved practices be developed. • Provides a singular regional voice that can represent and interact with governments and regional organisations such as the Asia Pacific Economic Community, Asian Development Bank, Association of South East Asian Nations, and others. • Presents the opportunity to consider an Asia Pacific Project Managers Baseline Competency Standard. Individual and fragmented local national associations would not be able to lift regional standards by themselves. • It will enable the running of an annual Asia Pacific Excellence Awards Program, commencing in 2011. Providing recognition of professional excellence is highly regarded by both individual and corporate Association members. • Provides a platform for the development of communities of practice. Organisations will find it increasingly difficult to act in isolation. Embracing an international approach through collaborative partnering will increase the stature of individual Associations with their governments and key stakeholders. • Provision of a portal to share Project Management Knowledge & Research. What will contribute to the sustainability of the Federation is clear alignment of member objectives, support by respective organisations to commit to and make tangible contributions, a good corporate governance structure, and effective communications facilitated through regular meetings. Upcoming face to face meetings of the Federation have been agreed for Darwin, Australia in October 2010 (AIPM’s National PM Conference), and New Deli, India in December 2010 (India’s Asia Pacific PM Conference). Organisation structure and Membership will be two key aspects dealt with at these respective meetings. A new website <www.apfpm.org> is currently being developed that will contain details of the development of the Federation, its aspirations, information and links to all member Associations, an annual calendar of significant events, and an action plan for delivering on joint cooperative projects. Dr Young is not expecting the new Federation to make a large change in the short term but is very upbeat on the likely benefits that will appear once disparate organisations build strong cooperative institutional bonds; and the value proposition to the collective organisations and individual Association members alike is realised. Highlights of Global Symposium 2009 overruns in cost. He also compared the total number of certified project professionals being far more in China than in India, specially at the higher levels of IPMA Certification like A, B and C. He further stated that like the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which reports to the President of USA and is the catalyst for promoting project management extensively in the government, Planning Commission should also take a lead in a similar way in promoting project management in the government. The GS 2009 was attended by over 450 participants from all over the world. They represented 85 companies and government institutions. It was very heartening to note that a set of 34 recommendations were framed by the participants to be forwarded to the Central and State Governments, CMDs of CPSEs and CEOs of the private companies in India to create a massive awareness of the phenomenal implications in using scientific approach to manage projects and programs. India must become one of the countries where new methods of managing projects should emerge. G K Vasan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Shipping, gave a very powerful message in his Valedictory Address on the last day of the Symposium. He mentioned Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Hon’ble Dy. Chairman, Planning Commission giving the Inaugural Address. The 17th Global Symposium on ‘Managing Projects, Programs and Portfolios’ was held in Delhi from December 14 to 16, 2009. The Global Symposium invited the best talents from India and abroad to talk about the contemporary trends in project and program management. The GS 2009 International Advisory Council (IAC) consisted of eminent professionals under the Chairmanship of B K Chaturvedi, Member, Planning Commission, Govt. of India and Honorary Patron of PMA, India. It had a representation at the Secretary level of seven Central Government Ministries, head of three major Business Associations CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM and Chairman & CEO’s of both Private and Public Sector companies. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission emphasized the importance of project management for emerging economies like India. He stressed that there cannot be any room for slippages in time and 7 Page 8: the importance of effective integration of efforts and resources to achieve the ultimate objectives of undertaking projects and programs. He mentioned the good work carried out by PMA, India and CEPM in creating awareness of using latest methods in managing and planning projects and programs. Since 1992, Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM) and Project Management Associates (PMA), India have been organizing Global Symposiums on an annual basis. The GS in India is now considered to be one of the major events globally in the field of project management. G K Vasan, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Shipping, giving the Valedictory Address on the 3rd day of the Symposium. Adesh Jain achieves yet another milestone Adesh Jain was privileged to address the participants of the PM Challenge 2010 Conference organized by NASA in Galveston, Texas, USA. Since 2004, NASA organizes PM Challenge on a yearly basis. They invite their own and other top-notch PM Gurus to share their experiences in managing projects, programs and portfolios. There were 17 parallel streams and in the 2 day Conference, there were over 180 speakers worldwide. Adesh Jain gave an hour long presentation on ‘Breaking boundaries – the key to innovation’. His new theory of innovation through asking questions as ‘Why’ and ‘Why not’ was highly appreciated. He emphasized a great deal that we must clean our mind regularly and one of the ways is not to act like a robot but to ask questions challenging the status quo. Most of our time is spent in traditional way of thinking without much value addition and following ‘business as usual’ (Feb. 9, 2010) Adesh Jain invited by NASA to address the participants of PM Challenge - 2010 in Galveston, Texas, USA on ‘Breaking boundaries – the key to innovation’ approach. It is this approach that we must challenge. Through his 25 power point presentations, Adesh mesmerized the audience. NTPC launches Video based monitoring system On March 25, 2010, a new beginning was made in monitoring power projects throughout the country. Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Power Minister, inaugurated the Video based Monitoring Room in the headquarters of NTPC Ltd. The Union Minister congratulated the leadership of NTPC Chairman, R S Sharma and the entire NTPC Community in establishing the Video based Real-time project monitoring System. There are 48 distinct video panels on a Video wall reflecting the connectivity of each major site with the Corporate Office. In fact, one could see all the construction activities taking place at various sites through remote cameras. The entire software development for this one of its kind monitoring system was entirely done by the In-house team of NTPC. The Corporate Monitoring Group (CMG) acted as their internal customers. The real-time project monitoring system will improve decision-making and sharing of knowledge and wisdom across the entire NTPC family. NTPC 8 Page 9: intends to provide a similar video based system at Ministry of Power and Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Shri R S Sharma, Chairman of NTPC Ltd. thanked the entire NTPC family for creating this unique system. He mentioned that NTPC is at the centre stage of the Country’s Power map. He said we must give our best inputs to ensure that no project in the 12th five year plan is delayed even by a single day. For this, all of us in NTPC have to work hard and give our best to our beloved country. PMCI starts functioning from April 1, 2010 Arvind Agarwal, MD, PMCI Project Management Certification Institute (PMCI), a non profit registered company under Section 25 of the Company’s Act is operational now. Arvind Agarwal is appointed as its first Managing Director. Arvind has done his engineering from BITS, Pilani in 1972 followed by MBA in 1974 from the same institute. Arvind was Director of PMA, India, a not for profit registered society. He would continue as Director of PMA, India on a part time basis till such time, PMA India recruits a fulltime Director. In April 2008, the report submitted by Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM) to Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India had recommended the formation of not for profit registered company to act as the national certification Company responsible for award of various certification schemes in the discipline of project management prevalent globally. The formation of PMCI was in line with the recommendations made to the government. PMCI has already signed an agreement with IPMA to award their prestigious 4 Level PM Certification System. PMCI will also be responsible for the award of Certificate In Project Management (CIPM). PMCI will act as a nodal agency for various certification schemes. Managing Infrastructure Projects and lessons learnt from the best practices from Asia Pacific Region The 18th Global Symposium will take place from December 6 to 8, 2010 in Hotel Le Meridian, New Delhi. We expect over 1000 delegates from all over the world. For the first time, 18th Global Symposium will have a strong representation from Asia Pacific Countries as the best practices in managing infrastructure projects in this region shall be shared. Under the leadership of Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), Member Association of IPMA, the Asia Pacific Forum on Project Management (APFPM) shall be formed in Hong Kong on April 24, 2010. It is expected that APFPM will sponsor their first Conference as a Co-organizer along with 18th Global Symposium organizers. The annual Global Symposium on project management held in Delhi has Project management continues to dominate the global business scene. Projects are undertaken to build a sound and sustainable future. French dictionary of Project Management “ We had a dream …and they made it come true” Once upon a time, there was a team of AFITEP project managers who shared the same big dream: to update the dictionary of Project Management, published in 2000, in accordance with the current normative and statutory texts and references. And so was born, in March 2010, a very attractive baby of 520 pages, containing more than 1400 words, covering 15 different themes, and illustrated by13 graphs of connected chains of terms and by 43 diagrams. As in the previous edition there is a correspondence table The multilingual correspondence table has been enriched with 2 new languages (Ukrainian and Russian), besides the four already existing (English, German, Spanish and Portuguese). The good fairies of the Francophone world exclaimed, bending over his cradle “ let us wish him a long life, filled with projects “! 10 Page 11: IPMA.HU FOVOSZ activity highlights during 1st Quarter of 2010 IPMA Registered Programmes & Training Courses After almost half a year preparation meetings and workshops with the selected professional core-team of verifiers, the FOVOSZ Registration System Committe has announced the early January 2010 starting of the verification process of IPMA Registered Programmes and Training Courses in Hungary. As a result of that long preparatory process FOVOSZ received two requests already during November and December 2009. The first applicant MCS Ltd. offered their full verification process as an open workshop pilot plan to all registered core-team members: as a result of that we were able to see and identify the possible best practices for the Hungarian registration process. The final results were confirmed and registered during March 2010. The successful practical Project Management training course Hungarian first registration: March 2010 11 Page 12: 1st Quarter Article Project Management Association of Canada/Association de gestion de projet du Canada (PMAC – AGPC) With the first quarter of the year completed, the Project Management Association of Canada – Association de gestion du Projet of Canada ( PMACAGPC) is on the way of surpassing their goals they have set out for 2010. To honour projects done in Canada, PMAC-AGPC has designated a new award, the Canadian National Project Award (CNPA). CNPA follows a rigorous assessment model promoted by the IPMA. Training for the CNPA Assessors will be held in Toronto from September 10 through September 12, 2010. To learn more about the CNPA you can visit the PMAC-AGPC web page. PMAC-AGPC success depends on its dedicated volunteers. To honour the hard working individuals the Board of Directors of PMAC-AGPC will award the annual volunteer of the year award by year end. The nominations are currently open and 2 awards will be available this year. The PMAC-AGPC Volunteer of the Year Award is available to all regular members and the PMAC-AGPC Young Volunteer of the Year Award is available to PMAC Young Crew Members. On behalf of the association, PMACAGPC welcome all volunteers who want to make a difference in Project Management in Canada. 2010 has been a great start for Young Crew Canada. The first event for YC Canada was held in April at the University of Toronto campus. Guest speakers were President of PMAC-AGPC, Beverly Pasian, and Elmira Kalali, one of the young volunteers who coordinated the event and is leading Young Crew Canada. Topics of discussion included the mission and vision of PMAC-AGPC and Young Crew Canada, followed by a question and answered period. Based on the response and the number of attendees there will be many more events to come. PMAC-AGPC will be at their first Projectworld in Toronto from May 17 to May 20, 2010. PMAC-AGPC will have a table with information about the association, along with IPMA information, will be hosting a panel discussion, and will be speaking. PMACAGPC will also be at Projectworld in Vancouver from October 25 to October 28, 2010. Again we will be hosting a panel and speaking. PMAC-AGPC looks forward to a long relationship with Projectworld. As a benefit to our members PMACAGPC have arranged for discounts with publishers of project managementrelated books. They are Multi-Media Publications Inc., who publish an extensive lineup of project management books, eBooks, audio books and DVDs, in addition to hosting popular teleseminars and webinars on PM-related topics. Another publisher is John Wiley & Sons Inc., who publish a lineup of bestselling project management books by well-known authors in the field. 2010 has already seen several project management webinars, expansion and upgrading of the web page, expansion of the newsletter with the focus on Canadian activities, working with individuals interested in all levels of IPMA certification, and setting up the availability of certification for all levels. With the coming together of the different portfolios, the team work of the board and volunteers, and activities planned, PMAC-AGPC is looking forward to continuing to reach and surpass it’s 2010 goals. For the first time in the history of Project Management Association of Iceland (VSF) the Council of Delegates is to be held in Reykjavík Iceland on the 23.-26. of September 2010. The Council of Delegates is the steering committee of IPMA. Each national member association nominates one council representative and one alternate, who attend the council meetings twice a year. Delegates from From Reykjavik 12 Page 13: 40 countries from all continents are expected, two third of them from Europe. The Council of Delegates’ main tasks are: • Deciding on the constitution of IPMA • Approving the two-year plan (“Biennial Plan”) • Electing the Executive Board Officers • Ratifying memberships • Evaluating progress on projects and activities. VSF is proud to have the honor of hosting the council this time and is working hard on planning the event, parallel to it VSF´s autumn conference „Projects Across Borders“ will take place and the hope is that guest’s of the council will use the opportunity to visit the conference during their stay . The information above and more to be found at the following link: http://www. iceland.is/ 25th Anniversary Last year The Project Management Association of Iceland (VSF) celebrated their 25th anniversary by hosting a conference where both international and domestic speaker participated in order to give speeches on broad selection of topics about project management. Keynote speakers were Jerry Manas the founder of The Marengo Group well known as an author, speaker and consultant. Also a keynote speaker to this anniversary conference was Dr. Darren Dalcher the founder of The National Center for Project Management England, very well known in the world of project management. To make this celebration even more memorable the board of VSF met one of its founders Mr. Morten Fangel to honor him for his contribution of work and good will to VSF, Mr. Fangel who leads the Danish Project Management Association is well known to Icelanders for his lectures and consultation on project management through the years. Papers should have a close relation to one of the three themes or provide substantial and specific input to the general title of the Expert Seminar. Papers may be research papers (empirical or conceptual research results), case studies (experiences of a real solution in a real world environment) or methodical papers (proposing methods and / or tools). The following guidelines should assist those submitting papers and help to ensure consistency in presentation and quality documentation for the IPMA Expert Seminar. Abstracts Papers will be presented in the theme sessions / workshops or the plenary session. Individuals interested in submitting a paper are invited to submit an abstract of not more than 500 words. This abstract should cover title, subject, objectives and main content of the paper and give a clear indication on “what is new”.
